Music Compilation with artists from Castelo Branco, Portugal.

Castelo Branco (Portugal) and all of Beira Baixa region have always been fertile ground for artistic creation, and in particular for musical production. An example of this is the very rich ancestral heritage of the working music of Malpica do Tejo landholdings, the fifes and flutes of transhumance shepherds, the adufes and songs of Monforte and Malpica do Tejo, the very particular viola Beiroa that survived extinction, or even the harmonicas, banjos, accordions, etc., used by countless players all over the region.
Perhaps this is also why Castelo Branco has been a true center of modern music creation for some years now, with countless talents that make music a continuous, rich and fruitful form of expression.
You can find everything here, from Indie to Rock, Pop, Folk, Jazz or Hip-Hop, Punk, Experimental and Ambient Music, Electronica, Heavy Metal, Fado and many other genres.
In 2001, Skud & Smarty, together with Raia magazine, published the first compilation entirely dedicated to the promotion of “new” original music created and produced by musicians and bands from the region. The album Raia Tone was followed by the compilations Raia Lab, Raia Lounge, and in 2004, Super Castelo Branco.
Helping promote the music of our city was how we started, so in 2023 we will show, once again, the best that is done here with the second volume of Super Castelo Branco.

Castelo Branco e toda a Beira Baixa sempre foram solo fértil à criação artística, e em especial à produção musical. São disso exemplo as riquíssimas heranças ancestrais das músicas de trabalho dos latifúndios de Malpica do Tejo, dos pífaros e flautas dos pastores da transumância, dos adufes e cantigas de Monforte e Malpica do Tejo, da muito particular viola beiroa que sobreviveu à extinção, ou ainda das harmónicas, banjos, sanfonas, etc, utilizadas por inúmeros tocadores um pouco por toda a região.
Talvez também por isso Castelo Branco é desde há uns anos um verdadeiro centro criador de música moderna com inúmeros talentos que fazem da música uma forma de expressão, continua, rica e frutífera.
Aqui podem encontrar do Indie ao Rock, Pop, Folk, Jazz ou Hip-Hop, Punk, música experimental e ambiental, Hardcore, Electrónica, Heavy Metal, entre muitos outros géneros.
Em 2001, a Skud and Smarty em parceria com a revista Raia publicou o primeiro disco inteiramente dedicado à promoção da “nova” música original criada e produzida por músicos e bandas da região. Ao disco Raia Tone, seguiram-se-lhe as colectâneas Raia Rab, Raia Lounge, e em 2004, o Super Castelo Branco.
Ajudar a divulgar a música da nossa cidade foi como começámos, por isso em 2023 voltamos a mostrar o que de melhor se faz por aqui com o segundo volume do Super Castelo Branco.
